Look closer: all those aircraft around flies VFR, i.e. Visual Flight Rules and the safety of the flight rely on the visibility provided to the pilot and his passenger, only. VFR says it all: one pilot may expect more visibility from its seat that the one provided... seating behind a big flat engine.

The Aeroplane of NGA offers a much better visibility because it places the pilot and his passenger at the right place in the aircraft: in front, while the engine is located in a central position, close to the c.g.
